Every driveway and patio we build in Haslemere follows the same six stages, from excavation through to jointing.
Topsoil and old surfacing are dug out — typically 200–300mm for a driveway — and taken away. Haslemere's sandy, greensand soil can be soft in places, especially on sloping plots, so any weak or waterlogged ground is removed and replaced before anything is built on top.
Graded MOT Type 1 is laid in layers and whacker-plated until it's solid. This is the layer carrying your car — not the blocks on top — so on Haslemere's mixed sandy ground we never cut it short.
Channel drains, soakaways and correct falls are set out before the surface goes down, so water runs off sloping Haslemere plots and away from the house rather than pooling against it through wet Surrey winters.
Kerbs and edge restraints are haunched in concrete around the perimeter. Without them, a surface on a sloping Haslemere drive creeps sideways over time and the edges drop away.
Blocks, resin, tarmac or slabs are laid to line and level, working with the gradient of the drive rather than against it. Cuts are made tight to edges and joints are filled properly — the part you see, done to match the part you don't.
The area is compacted, jointed, cleaned down and all waste removed. We walk the finished job with you before we leave site.
